ENDING THE YEAR |

Here we are. The semester is coming to a close. Milestones and EOCs are finished and we are wrapping up our content. At this point, students NEED to review HAC and determine whether they are missing work. Each point counts! All missing homework must be completed and turned in for late credit. All exams must be recovered before final exams! Please help your student to achieve this.
Students have worked very hard and achieved great results on their EOC's. We are putting the finishing touches on the curriculum and getting them ready for high school. Let's wrap up this year on a strong note.

Well, the Winter Olympics are over and its time to get down to some exciting math.... not that the Olympics weren't exciting. I mean, come on, it doesn't get any more exciting than men's curling. That was a game! ....... Okay. Women's hockey came pretty close.
Sooner than we think, Spring Break and testing will be here, and we must be ready. Let's stay on task and up to date with all the required work. I am almost always available for help, and I will answer any homework questions in class when asked!
Let's do this.

JCHS TOUR
The Johns Creek High School Tour for rising 9th graders will be conducted Tuesday through Thursday, January 23 - 25. Students must have a permission form completed! Please see your home room teacher.

Accelerated Geometry students are taking their Geometry EOCT on Thursday, November 15 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, approximately.
Recovery Effort
Students have recovered most exams and completed most NHI's at this point. We have focused on getting this done before Thanksgiving although it seems that there will be some that will not finish until we come back from break. We will focus on getting this done as soon as possible since, after break, everyone will be completing projects and activities, and studying for exams in December.

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) testing continues through Tuesday, 9/26. Students should have a FULLY CHARGED iPad each day. Rosh Hashanah begins the evening of Wednesday, 9/20, and end the evening of Friday, 9/22. Many students will be out Thursday but will complete any missed work upon their return.
Recovery Effort
Students are coming in for help sessions and I am trying to keep mornings open for them. Although recovery for any exam should be completed as soon as possible, I want them prepared so that they can be successful. The recovery will focus only on the material missed on the exam and it is imperative that students BRING IN THEIR EXAM when they come to ensure that we can do that.

TUTORING LIST |
|
08/30/2017
|
Although teachers at Autry Mill cannot tutor their own students or grade level, they are available for other levels in those subject areas in which they are qualified. You can find the list on the Autrey Mill website under Guidance/ Counseling. I have also provided it here.
CURRICULUM NIGHT |
|
08/28/2017
|
As we approach the end of the first month of school, I invite all parents/guardians to attend Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 31. We will get to meet and you will get a flavor of the class and content. Although this is high school math and we hold students to a higher level of accountability, it also provides the help and resources necessary to rise to the expected performance level. Students who have not experienced this level of content and expectations may take a little time to adjust and create a personal schedule that is beneficial to their study.
For those 6th and 7th graders who are taking these classes off grade level, you may arrange to stop by and see me in the mornings or directly after school, or attend curriculum night.
Help sessions for my classes are on Tuesday after school. 4:10pm - 4:40-pm. Other teachers also have help sessions for Algebra 1/Geometry A on Thursday mornings, 8:00am - 8:30am.

So, here we are. A new year. I hope everyone's summer was enjoyable, restful and productive. As we begin, please read through the syllabus pages. They should answer any questions that you might have.
As you can see from the courses listed on the menu, we have a number of units to complete this year. Those units may include problem, project or research based activities; and/or standard assessments. Students are assessed on what they understand, not what they can memorize. There will be few, if any, multiple choice exams. Students will have recovery opportunities throughout the year and no adjustments will be made to the calculated grade shown in Home Access.

Welcome to all! This year, you will be challenged not only in the mathematical content but in the pace as well. We will be covering an extraordinary amount of material for which you will be held 100% accountable! We will learn, create and expand our horizons in many ways. but above all,
WE WILL HAVE FUN!!
